One Chair 4 One Child- (OC4OC)

Works with schools across the Island by making chairs accessible to all students. The aim is to target youths within the communities that possess the skill to design good and effective chairs; One Chair 4 One Child creates a comfortable learning environment for children going to school in rural areas of Jamaica who have limited access to sturdy chairs.

OC4OC Impact

Solving a social problem – lack of chairs and proper classroom environment was inhibiting the learning process 

Generating new jobs – training young people to design and manufacture quality classroom chairs, and building our own machine shop to provide employment opportunities for people living is rural Portland, Jamaica.

Creating positive, thriving learning environments – for hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren  

Made more than 600 chairs for 14 schools, improving the learning experience 14 communities in 3 parishes across Jamaica.

Chairs constructed of metal; desks made of both metal frame and wooden top (Plywood).

One Laptop 4 One Child Project: OL4OC

Our laptop project initiative will benefit schools across rural Jamaica that lack access to technology to enhance their learning. The first three schools that will be benefiting from this initiative are the Moore Town Primary School, Comfort Castle Primary School, and Windsor Primary School

One Scholarship 4 One Child- (OS4OC)

Seven volunteers have received full scholarships to continue their tertiary education through Jamaica’s Governor General SUmmer Of Service Program. For One Child Foundation has also launched its own scholarship program. We give out small scholarship grants to kids to need help attending school. The fund will help with things such as uniforms, textbooks, school fees, etc.

The FOC-ERC will be home to our Machine Shop and serve as a resource center that will provide training workshops and other educational skills to children and other members in surrounding communities in Rural Portland.
